Phase V

Select Priority Issues and
Establish Targeted Community Outcomes

Based on the Visioning Process, the COMPASS II Community Partnership established criteria for selecting six priority issues on which to focus the community’s efforts.

Based on the data and community feedback, the priorities selected were:

  • Lack of jobs; economic development; unemployment/underemployment
  • Lack of affordable medical care; poverty; lack of affordable childcare
  • Racial or ethnic discrimination
  • Family violence; abuse of children or adults; family stability; alcohol/drug abuse
  • Literacy
  • Leadership Development

Once these priorities were set, Initiative Teams were assembled for each of the six areas. The initiative teams consisted of community leaders, experts and concerned citizens. Once assembled, these initiative teams created Action Plans for the priority issues, designed to link available resources to the problems and challenges identified by the Wabash Valley’s own residents.
