Outcome Reporting
In growing numbers, service providers, government, other funders,
and the public are calling for clear evidence that the resources
they expend actually produce benefits for people. Consumers of services
and volunteers want to know that the programs to which they devote
their time and money really make a difference!
Why measure outcomes?
- To see if programs really make a difference in the lives of
people and
- To help programs improve their services.
Outcomes are benefits for participants during or after their involvement
with an agency’s program. Outcomes may relate to knowledge,
skills, attitudes, values, behavior, condition or status.
Examples of outcomes include greater knowledge of nutritional needs,
improved reading skills, more effective responses to conflict, getting
a job and having greater financial stability. Of course, there
are many other examples.
The United Way of the Wabash Valley encourages its agencies to report
outcomes by program. It provides training to agencies and
volunteers regarding the importance of outcomes and how to measure
them.
