United Way of the Wabash Valley seeks to enhance and leverage assets
for opportunities addressing its outcomes listed below under “High
Priorities.” To assist in focusing on these community-wide
outcomes, United Way is accepting, on an ongoing basis, proposals
of concepts that could use its non-financial resources in developing
opportunities.
High Priorities
Concepts of projects or programs that will:
Make a significant contribution to the community-wide outcomes
sought by United Way of the Wabash Valley within the six priority
issues that have been selected from COMPASS II:
(1) lack of jobs; economic development;
unemployment/underemployment (2) lack of affordable medical
care; poverty; lack of affordable care for children (3)
racial or ethnic discrimination (4) family violence, abuse
of children or adults; family stability; alcohol and/or
drug abuse (5) literacy and (6) leadership development.
Focus on solutions rather than symptoms; and
Promote or enhance cooperation and collaboration among organizations
in the Wabash Valley.
Flow of Events
To submit a concept of a project or program for consideration of
assistance from United Way of the Wabash Valley:
Prepare your “Letter of Intent” providing all of
the requested information. This is important because the
committee will use this information to make their decision.
The Grants Committee will review each letter and may ask for
a meeting with the “project partners” for discussion.
The Grants Committee will assess and recommend the level of
participation in the project or program by United Way of the Wabash
Valley.
The Grants Committee will make its recommendation to the Resource
Development Committee for approval.
You will be advised of the decision approximately 3-6 weeks
after the “Letter of Intent” has been submitted and
be asked to submit and/or assist in developing a detailed proposal.
What to Include
The “What is Your Dream” letter of intent must include
the following information:
A brief narrative that addresses how the project/program would
address at least one of the community-wide outcomes listed above
(see “High Priorities”).
A list of the potential project partners (other organizations,
persons, etc., that might be involved in this initiative).
A list of challenges/barriers to the project/program.
A list of short- and long-term activities outlining how this
could happen (where will you start, what steps will be needed
to complete the project/program, long-term continuation of the
project/program [unless it is meant to be a short-term project],
etc.).
Both the President of the Board of Directors and the Executive
Director for the agency must sign the letter of intent.
