MISSION:  Reading Horizons is a comprehensive program to encourage reading by people of all ages.  The mission of the Adult Learners’ component of Reading Horizons is to provide tutoring for any adults requesting help with Adult Basic Education or fundamental literacy skills.  The tutoring shall be considered successful if the student shows progress toward his or her own personal goals.  The mission of our adult library, in cooperation with the Vigo County Public Library, is to provide a convenient and accessible circulating collection of reading material of specific interest to the residents of the 14th & Chestnut neighborhood.  The mission of the McCracken Computer Lab is to provide computer and Internet access to the community and to educate adults in basic computer literacy. Survival Skills for Women is a program aimed at enabling women to better themselves and their communities with a variety of skills taught.  All services are free.  Childcare and some meals provided, depending upon the programs.

REQUEST FOR VOLUNTEERS:  Volunteers are needed to tutor other adults, to teach computer classes, and to assist in the computer lab with repairing and installing equipment. Women are needed to assist in the computer lab.  Help is also needed with the Survival Skills for Women course, including but not limited to, childcare assistance and volunteers to organizations to provide meals, and interest-related workshops for ladies attending Survival Skills. Ongoing financial support for these areas of outreach to help others to make a difference in their lives and to improve their futures is appreciated.

WISH LIST: New books for adults and children, tutoring/educational materials for adults and children, and computer components and software are always accepted.
